U.S. Senate Exhibit: “United by the Appalachian Trail”

Rewarded by Jim Salge

Goals & Messaging

Goal:   Tap into the adventure and the grueling accomplishment of hiking the Appalachian Trail’s nearly 2,220 miles while educating decisionmakers about the natural, historical and cultural resources of the legendary trail.

Goal: Impart the importance of the trail as a contiguous landscape, vital to balancing human-built environments with natural resources in the eastern United States.

Sample Messaging:   “The Appalachian Trail is a simple footpath. It is both the destination and the journey.

The Appalachian Trail has always been about connections – about enticing exploration through side trails joining the urban with the remote and rural, linking communities in hospitality, and welcoming visitors of all types.

Today, more than ever, the Appalachian Trail is significant for what it outlines – one of the most significant land features in the eastern United States.  It is also important for what it provides – a contiguous landscape of several distinct biomes that support wildlife and vegetation, a trail of history that showcases the important moments of progression in our country, and an inviting ‘backyard’ paradise for millions of Americans who live nearby.”
